METM 06:  International Communication-Promising Practices

to be held 27-28 October 2006 in Barcelona, Spain

The association Mediterranean Editors and Translators announces its second meeting, METM 06:  International Communication-Promising Practices. METM 06 will again bring together communications theory and practice in a variety of specialized knowledge fields in which Euro- Mediterranean professionals and institutions must use English to communicate.

Through panel discussions, presentations and plenary discussions, METM 06 will promote conversation and networking among editors, translators, linguists and oral communication coaches who work in the Euro-Mediterranean area. In addition, a new feature in 2006 will be one afternoon of training workshops. In the call for participation, we are considering proposals that will add practical and theoretical range to the preliminary program. Proposals (due 10 June 2006) are welcome for: -Short presentation with discussion (15 min) -Short workshops-with tasks and discussion for building awareness of a concept or practice (70 min) -Training workshops-well-rounded, task-based learning experiences that go more deeply into an editing, translation, or oral communication skill (3 h) We welcome talks that address issues in editing, translation, special-purposes instruction, and project management for international communication, the interrelations between written, oral and audiovisual texts, research into promising practices in writing, oral communication coaching, editing or translation that have practical applications, and practical applications of discourse analysis and other tools from applied linguistics. We also have a group interested in the history of communication and changes in language policy and use in the Mediterranean.
