| Non si chiami l’amor mio idolatria, né il mio amato si mostri come un Dio, pari vergando io lodi e poesie di questo e a quello, sempre a piacer mio. Gentile è l’amor mio oggi e domani, e pur costante in splendida eccellenza: sì il mio verso - costanza che rimane - l’uno esprimendo esclude differenza. ‘Bello, gentile e vero’ è il mio argomento, ‘bello, gentile e vero’, altro io cangiando, e in codesta varianza è ciò che invento, tre temi in uno, che un prodigio ostende. ‘Bello’, ‘gentile’ e ‘vero’ spesso soli vissero, mai tre insieme in uno solo. | Let not my love be called idolatry, Nor my beloved as an idol show, Since all alike my songs and praises be To one, of one, still such, and ever so.
