NORWICH PAPERS
Call for submissions for volume 17 of the Norwich Papers
We are now collecting contributions for volume 17 of Norwich Papers, an annual publication based at the University of East Anglia.
Norwich Papers was founded in 1993, primarily as a forum for literary translators, and in recent
years has broadened its scope to include issues surrounding translation in general. Every year the
journal concentrates on a specific theme and draws its contributions from a wide range of academic
backgrounds. Previous volume titles include Ethics and Politics of Translation and Identities: The
Role of Translation in Global and National Contexts.
This year’s title is to be:
Translation / Transculture
We encourage varying interpretations of this title and aim for an interesting, innovative and
multicultural collection of papers on translation. We are looking both for what unites certain
cultures on the issues and practices of translation, and for what sets them apart.
Possible issues addressed could include, but are not limited to:
· The influence of cultural background/heritage on the translation process and/or theory
· The ideology and ethics of translation in different cultural backgrounds
· Approaches to different types of translation within different cultural eras
· Debates pertaining to the nature and concept of translation
· Practical difficulties and ethical consequences of translating the cultural elements of a text
We are confident that the topical nature of this issue will be of interest to many, and hope that you
will find it inspiring. If you wish to submit a contribution, please refer to the Guidelines for
Submission on our website.
We welcome any contributions received by us before Monday, 30 March 2009. Unfortunately, we
are unable to accept contributions that arrive later than this date. Final contributors will each be
sent a free copy of the volume.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
Kind regards,
The Editorial Team
