Traducción y lenguas dominantes, minoritarias y minorizadas

Encuentro Internacional de Traductores Literarios, Ciudad de México del 1 al 3 de abril de 2009

Se afirma a menudo que la traducción vincula dos lenguas, dos culturas y dos identidades. Sin embargo, no resulta tan evidente que la relación entre dichas lenguas, culturas e identidades se establece históricamente de manera desigual por razones políticas, económicas y sociales.

¿La traducción ha contribuido a profundizar esta desigualdad o, al contrario, ha ayudado a limarla? ¿Es lo mismo traducir del purépecha al español, al inglés o al bengalí, que del francés al alemán, al español o al swahili? ¿En qué medida es traducible la literatura occidental a las lenguas indígenas o minoritarias? ¿Es relevante hacerlo?

Los invitamos a presentar, debatir, confrontar y divulgar sus reflexiones, investigaciones o talleres en torno a estas y muchas otras cuestiones relacionadas con la traducción y sus vínculos con el estatus de las lenguas.
