The Duo Colloquium is a five-yearly interdisciplinary congress on issues of meaning in translation and interpreting with a session in Maastricht (the Netherlands) and Łódź (Poland). The next congress will take place from 19 to 22 May, 2010. It will be a jubilee congress as it is the fifth time that it takes place.

We are pleased to announce the First Call for Papers for the Fifth International Conference on Multimodality (5ICOM) taking place in Sydney on 1-3 December 2010.
5ICOM is a meeting point for international scholars and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, including communication and language studies, social semiotics, linguistics, education, (new) media studies, design, traditional and new media arts, cultural studies, sociology, history, and (computer) science.

The recent ‘creative turn’ in translation studies has challenged notions of translation as a derivative and uncreative activity which is inferior to ‘original’ writing. Commentators have drawn attention to the creative processes involved in the translation of texts, and suggested a rethinking of translation as a form of creative writing. Hence there is growing critical and theoretical interest in translations undertaken by literary authors.
